Francis Sidney ARNOLD was born in Brandon, registered Thetford Q4-1894 4B:357. He was the son of James F and Eliza ARNOLD At the 1901 census he was aged 6. living at Lakenheath Station Cottages, Brandon with his father James [47] a plate layer on the railway, born Hockwold; his mother Eliza [45] born Hockwold; sister Julia F [13]; brother Ernest A [10] and brother Frederick J [2]. All these children were born in Brandon. For the census of 1911, at the age of 16, he was still living with his parents and brother Ernest and Frederick at Lakenheath Station, Brandon. His parents are now recorded as Wilton born and the children as born at Lakenheath Sta. Frank and brother Ernest were farm labourers, Frederick was a scholar. 12 children had been born in this marriage, but 6 had died by 1911. |
The 1st Norfolks history at this time has proven elusive. However Frank and 2 of his chums who died that same day were the only deaths for the battalion that week. |
